ESC Key - Foreign Language Text input problems

Reported by Kyle | January 22nd, 2008 @ 07:59 AM | in 1.2.2

Often when using a foreign language such as Japanese, one needs to hit the escape key (or at least, I do..) to make it not do something it's currently doing. For example, I can type the following key sequence: konnnichiha , and when I'm in Japanese input mode it appears as こんにちは, and it will auto-translate to kanji when I hit space (and become 今日は). If I don't want the suggested kanji, my normal way of dealing with it is hitting the escape key to make it go back to こんにちは, and then either fixing it (there are underlines under the previous kanji groupings that I can use the arrow keys on to fix) or just leaving it in the hiragana I've shown here.

Having linkinus take the ESC key away from me for this purpose (and then doing one worse and completely clearing the line I've been typing) makes it extraordinarily difficult to use on a daily basis for me, as I often hit ESC without thinking about it while typing Japanese.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to provide further information or assistance on this ticket, I don't assume that everyone knows any asian languages/how to install them/how to type in them. :)
